Family Day Weekend at Britannia Shipyards

What: Britannia Shipyards in Steveston Village invites you to discover Richmond’s multicultural boatbuilding and fishing heritage this Family Day weekend. There will be a scavenger hunt, hands-on activities, crafts, and more to experience at the National Historic Site.

Family Day at the Love Farmhouse at Burnaby Village Museum

What: Burnaby Village Museum invites guests to go back in time and explore the Love farmhouse, one of Burnaby’s oldest surviving buildings that dates back to 1893.

Hear from museum interpreters as they share stories of the families who lived there and how the generations influenced the house’s development. You’ll also get to try heritage games, craft a folded paper model home with upcycled materials, and more.

When: February 17, 2025

Tin Soldier Time Capsule Opening

What: The World’s Tallest Tin Soldier in New Westminster has been keeping a secret for over 20 years, and it will soon be revealed during a public celebration.

There will be a free hot beverage station, children’s activities, and a live reading of the book Tall Tale: The True Story of the World’s Largest Tin Soldier by author Tiffany Stone. Kwantlen artist Brandon Gabriel will transform the soldier into the World’s Largest Coast Salish Welcome Pole with a projection when the sun sets.

Items discovered inside the time capsule will be displayed inside the Fraser River Discovery Centre until 8 pm.

Family Day at Historic Stewart Farm

What: Take the family out for a memorable day at Historic Stewart Farm. Everyone will enjoy exploring the historic farmhouse and watching the various heritage demonstrations. The little ones can learn the art of dot painting from Lorelei Lyons of 2 Métis Women, and tasty refreshments will also be served.

Family Day at the Museum of Vancouver

What: Admission to Museum of Vancouver (MOV) is by donation for Family Day and visitors are invited to discover the local stories featured in its History Galleries and feature exhibitions.

Guests can also register for Raven by 3 Crows Productions in the Joyce Walley Room. The tale of how Raven stole the Sun promises to be filled with lighthearted humour and audience participation suitable for all ages.

Big Bang Festival

What: Music on Main, Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre and Zonzo Compagnie are teaming up for the inaugural Big Bang Festival, a day of musical adventure for children ages five and up.

The immersive festival will be a journey through music and sound art, with mini-concerts, interactive activities, and surprise performances throughout the day. Featuring performances by Belgian singer Naomi Beeldens, Vancouver musicians Dailin Hsieh, Saina Khaledi, and more.

When: February 16, 2025

Britannia Mine Museum – Ores & Orcas

What: Britannia Mine Museum hosts Ores & Orcas – Howe Sound /Átl’ḵa7tsem: A Recovering Ecosystem until February 2025. Guests will be able to explore how copper contamination impacted the marine food chain from plankton to predators and discover how remediation efforts protect the important ecosystem.

The temporary exhibit also showcases specimens from the Howe Sound ecosystem, including the skeleton of a real killer whale.

Family Day Weekend: Connecting Through Comedy at Queen Elizabeth Theatre

What: Vancouver Civic Theatres (VCT) is hosting a Family Day open house on Saturday, February 15, in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre lobbies. Catch some all-ages friendly comedy on the Family Comedy Stage supported by CreativeBC and Just for Laughs Vancouver, enjoy a story program with Vancouver Public Library, visit The Joke Factor and tour the new exhibit by Bronwyn McIvor and Joy Munt, and treat yourself to a complimentary hot cocoa at the hot chocolate station.

Family Day at Vancouver Maritime Museum

What: The Vancouver Maritime Museum is celebrating Family Day by offering free admission on February 17. The event features family-friendly activities, a meet and greet with members of the Canadian Coast Guard, storytelling, singer and stilt walker Peter G-G, food trucks, and more.

Family Day Toonie Skate

What: The City of Burnaby has a variety of Family Day events lined up, including two Toonie Skates. Drop by Bill Copeland Sports Centre from 1 to 2:30 pm for a family skate, crafts, and face painting.

In the evening, head on by Kensington Complex from 4 to 5:30 pm and 6 to 7:30 pm for another family skate event.
