Fake green man jumps the glass at Canucks-Leafs game in Vancouver

The Green Men have become a staple at Vancouver Canucks games, but an imposter stole their thunder last night.

During a commercial timeout, a fan wearing a green suit hopped over the glass and ran onto the ice in front of the Toronto Maple Leafs bench. He was quickly apprehended by the officials on the ice and led away from the playing surface.

The whole incident did not last too long, but it was enough for fans at Rogers Arena to capture some video of it.

The video shows the imposter struggling to get over the glass and then falling multiple times when he eventually gets onto the ice. You can also notice that Leafs players are not pleased about the fan intrusion. Fan reaction seemed to be halfheartedly cheering him on and then apathetically booing when he was being escorted off the ice.

Don’t be mistaken by the similar shade of green as Daily Hive was able to confirm that this was not one of the original Green Men that Canucks fans have come to know and love. That honour would belong to Ryan Sullivan and Adam Forsythe, who first made their appearance beside the Rogers Arena penalty box back in 2009.

Sullivan and Forsythe went mainstream during the Canucks’ run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011 and continued their schtick until “retiring” at the end of the 2014-15 season. They did, however, make a triumphant return as their green counterparts last season at a regular season game against the Boston Bruins as well as one game in their second-round matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, who complained to the NHL about their antics.

The actions of the original Green Men have gotten them into a little bit of heat with the NHL over their tenure, but they never went as far as interrupting a game and kept their fun limited to the stands.

Perhaps fans will be able to get a glimpse of the real Green Men at another Canucks playoff game this season.
