Experience a winter wonderland at VanDusen Garden

Nov 17 2016, 3:01 am

Christmas lights are going up on the streets now that December is almost here.

It’s making our rainy winter weather feel like a wonderland, and you’ll feel it stronger than ever at VanDusen Gardens’ annual Festival of Lights.

On December 1, the botanical garden will be covered in more than a million lights to bring in the Christmas season. Reindeer and Scandinavian gnomes will be roaming the trails, walking through the gingerbread wood, lantern alley, and Make-a-Wish candle grotto.

This year, the Festival of Lights has a number of new shows and events. The Maple Bells concert set in a grove of tall cedars, hemlocks, and maples creates a harmony of light, sound, and visual effects. A 24 foot tall Christmas tree is situated near the entrance of the gardens, and will light up with holiday images when two people activate the tree together.

This year also sees the introduction of a holiday carousel. A ride on the carousel is included in the price of every ticket, and anyone older than two will be able to enjoy the experience. Tickets are available in advance online, or at the gate during regular open hours.
