Ex-Canucks coach Tocchet getting Benning treatment from Flyers fans

Philadelphia Flyers fans are taking their frustration with head coach Rick Tocchet to the skies.

The former Vancouver Canucks head coach is on the hot seat in Philadelphia after the Flyers have gotten off to a horrendous start to the season.

Now, a Flyers fan has started a GoFundMe to fly a “Fire Rick Tocchet” banner over the Flyers’ home arena, and it has already been fully funded.

The GoFundMe has over 100 donations and very quickly raised over $2,000.

The fan who started the fundraiser, who goes by Tony Escargot on social media, plans to fly the banner over the arena on Nov. 27 when the Canucks are in town to face the Flyers, as the nearest afternoon game on the schedule.

The tactic harkens back to when Canucks fans raised money for a “#FireBenning” banner to be flown over Vancouver.

In the Canucks’ case, the protest was not immediately effective, as it took another six months for Jim Benning to be fired as general manager.

The Flyers are dead last in the Eastern Conference with a 4-10-4 record and a Conference-worst minus-22 goal differential.

What really has fans up in arms, however, is his usage of the team’s young stars.

Matvei Michkov is among the NHL’s goalscoring leaders with 10 goals in 18 games, but is averaging under 16 minutes per game.

Rookie Porter Martone, who was a revelation when he joined the Flyers last season, is playing under 14 minutes per game.
