BCAA's Evolve e-bike share launches in North Vancouver, replacing Lime

After four years, Lime will fully withdraw its e-bike share service from the North Shore this weekend, but it will be almost immediately replaced by a new operator — Evolve e-bike share.

The City of North Vancouver announced today that Evolve will roll out its new e-bike share fleets just in time for Canada Day, July 1, 2025.

The BCAA-owned and operated service will initially operate in select areas within both the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver. They will be launching with 250 e-bikes across 90 stations.

Similar to Evolve’s other service areas in British Columbia, the e-bike share service will be accessible from the same Evo smartphone app used for Evo carshare.

“We look forward to welcoming a new service provider and seeing even more riders take advantage of this growing option,” said Karyn Magnusson, director of engineering, parks, and environment for the City of North Vancouver, in a statement today.

“Our Evolve team is excited to provide locals and visitors with a convenient, safe, reliable and accessible way to move around, conquer hills, and make the most of the many local businesses, sights and nature throughout the communities,” Leanne Buhler, head of Evolve E-Bike Share, added.

“We’re delighted to continue BCAA, Evo and Evolve’s support for the forward-thinking leaders of the North Shore as they act to reduce reliance on private vehicles.”

Evolve’s shared micro-mobility services are also found at the Cowichan Valley, Langford, Whistler, Squamish, Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby Mountain campus, and Nanaimo, including the Hullo Ferries terminal.

Evolve was selected following an open bidding process for a permanent operator led by the City of North Vancouver, which also oversees and manages the micromobility sharing services on behalf of the North Shore’s other municipal governments.

Lime also participated in this procurement process, but was ultimately not selected. The San Francisco-based micro-mobility giant first launched its service on the North Shore in Summer 2021, under the City of North Vancouver’s pilot project for such services.

Within Metro Vancouver, Lime also operates shared micro-mobility services in Richmond since May 2022, which were renewed by Richmond City Council earlier this year for another three-year term with two one-year options, as well as in Coquitlam since July 2023 and in New Westminster since August 2024.

In September 2024, Lime brought its e-scooter share service to Vancouver, which expanded its service area into downtown Vancouver earlier this month.
