Vancouver Canucks fans have been waiting for Elias Pettersson to re-emerge as a legitimate superstar.

While it’s too soon to say if he’s officially back, he’s undoubtedly playing his best hockey in a long time.

On Friday afternoon against the San Jose Sharks, Pettersson scored one of the nicest goals of his career.

Early in the second period, Pettersson followed the puck as it slid into the San Jose end of the ice. He then batted the puck out of mid-air, away from his former teammate, Tyler Toffoli.

After basically passing the puck to himself, Pettersson skated to the front of the net, held onto the puck for as long as possible, and slid home a goal past Sharks’ goalie Yaroslav Askarov.

The goal puts an exclamation mark on his most successful month since last November.

Pettersson now has five goals and 14 points in 13 games this month after scoring versus the Sharks. In November of 2024, Pettersson also had 14 points in 13 games, before posting just 27 points in his final 42 appearances of the 2024-25 season.

His 14 points this month trail just Quinn Hughes among all Canucks players.

The last time Pettersson had more than 14 points in a month was back in January of 2024, when he had 14 goals and 21 points in 13 games, leading the NHL to name him the third star of the month.

That was the last time Canucks fans saw Pettersson in peak form. Whether he can actually get back to that level waits to be seen, but he’s certainly trending in the right direction.

Pettersson has one more game in November to add to his point totals, as the Canucks conclude their schedule for the month on Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings.
