East Vancouver Bike Polo Court, A World’s First

Dec 19 2017, 12:48 pm

This June, Grandview Park in East Vancouver will open up the world’s first bike polo court. At a cost of $90,000 the court is expected to draw bike polo enthusiasts from all over North America. I on the other hand had no idea that such a sport even existed. Kudos to Vancouver Parks Board for accommodating the communities wishes.

Now before you go on a tirade against Mayor Gregor and his cycling buddies, remember that this budget came out of the parks board funds. No money was re-routed from social housing (we do more than our share for the rest of Metro Vancouver already, anyways), road work etc… Could this money have been better spent on something else, perhaps, but if this is what the community wanted, they got it.

Look for bike polo to be added to the 2011 Hipster Olympics.
