Another earthquake rattles Metro Vancouver and Victoria this morning

Some residents across Metro Vancouver and Victoria were rattled by an earthquake that struck just after 5 a.m. on Monday.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the magnitude 4.1 quake was centred about 43 km east of Sidney, B.C. at a depth of 17 km.

There are some conflicting reports of the strength of the quake, with the U.S. Geological Survey assessing the earthquake as magnitude 4.5.

There are no reports of damage or injuries, and Emergency Info BC announced there is no tsunami threat to BC.

There have been several other small quakes in the last couple of weeks, including on February 21, when a moderately powerful earthquake was felt in Metro Vancouver.

People around the region were woken up by the quake

Earthquakes Canada states the quake was “lightly felt” around Vancouver and parts of Vancouver Island.

There are several reports on X of people who were startled awake by the quake.

Many users online also shared their experience feeling the quake this morning.

“Nice little tremor from where I’m sleeping,” shared one commenter.

“I swear I can still feel shaking,” added another. “I can’t tell if it’s real or if it’s just my jumpy legs.”

B.C. has a long history of earthquakes. While some have occurred recently, several of the province’s most significant and terrifying seismic events took place years ago.

According to Earthquakes Canada, B.C.’s Pacific Coast is the most “earthquake-prone” region in the country.
