Vancouver’s March forecast is in, and you’ll want to put away the parkas because it’s shaping up to be a warmer start to the new month.
Daily Hive spoke with Colin Fong, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), regarding what Vancouverites should expect to see as we transition from winter into spring.Â
“March will start with little rain, but warm conditions will continue into next week,” said Fong. “The first week of the month may even see daytime highs a few degrees higher than normal for the period.”

“Looking beyond that, the first half of March has hints of the continued warm signal. That means at or slightly above temperature normals.”
The average March in Vancouver sees a daily high of about 10°C and lows of 3°C.
Will Vancouverites need to keep their umbrellas nearby? That question is a bit harder to answer.
“As far as precipitation, it may be a wet first weekend starting on Saturday night and tailing off on Monday,” Wong said. “Though there is a drying trend into next week, beyond that, the overall signal for March could be a little wetter than normal. Weather models are having trouble agreeing on weather patterns.”

March usually brings an average of 104 millimetres of rain. It’s hardly Vancouver’s wettest month, coming in drier than November, December, and January, but it can certainly see some storms.
Do drivers need to worry about any more snow in the forecast?
“There is no snow on the horizon at this point in time,” Wong replied. “However, it’s not unprecedented to have some snow in the month. A snowfall of 2.6 cm is the average over the last 20 years for Vancouver.”
So, while you’re putting away the winter jackets, you may want to keep your snow tires on for a while longer.
