Vancouver Police have arrested two people in connection to a Monday morning shooting that took place in the city’s Downtown Eastside.

On September 23, just before 6:30 am, police responded to reports of shots being fired at the Grand Union Hotel at 74 West Hastings Street. A 50-year-old man from Vancouver was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

In a release, VPD says detectives arrested 26-year-old Thomas Joseph Brown and 31-year-old Desirae Lorell Cardinal of Vancouver.

Both individuals are facing charges for unlawfully discharging a firearm. Brown has also been charged with possessing a firearm contrary to an order.

This incident was one of three shootings that took place in the Downtown Eastside over the course of a 15-hour period, resulting in a total of four people being hospitalized with injuries.

Two of the shootings took place on Sunday, and a Vancouver woman posted on Twitter that one of the incidents was at the Vancouver Area Network of Drug Users (Vandu) in the late afternoon.

“The investigations into the three shootings this past weekend remain very active and identifying those involved has been a departmental priority,” said VPD Sergeant Aaron Roed, in a statement.

“Although Crown Counsel has approved charges in Monday’s shooting, we believe there were others involved in these three incidents. It’s very important we hear from anyone with information about these shootings.”

Police are again appealing for dashcam or cell phone video from anyone who may have been in the area of Hastings to Keefer just before 4 pm on Sunday, September 22, and later that day around 6 pm along Dunlevy to Heatley. Anyone with video or additional information is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
