A Metro Vancouver man is facing several charges after an alleged break-and-enter and theft at a construction site in Delta led to a strange late-night joyride.

Delta Police state that they were called shortly before midnight on Sunday, Sept. 7, with reports of a boom lift being driven erratically in Tsawwassen.

“The vehicle caused property damage and struck street signs as it was recklessly driven through the community,” said Delta Police in a statement.

“During the incident, it was reported that the suspect approached local residents to ask for directions to the nearest liquor store before abandoning the boom lift and fleeing on foot into a nearby cornfield.”

Delta Police Patrol officers collaborated with the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service and a drone team to track and arrest an individual without incident. Officers were also able to return the boom lift safely to its construction site.
