Meet the duo that started Vancouver's grazing box craze

Made in Vancouver is a collaboration between Vancity and Daily Hive. Together, we’re turning the spotlight onto local businesses, organizations, and individuals who are helping to create a healthy local economy.

Having a fantastic idea, strong work ethic, ability to take the risk, and the awareness to get to market first are key elements to the success of an entrepreneur.

It can be difficult to have most of these qualities, and Jenessa Hlatky and Stacy Stringer certainly have them all — especially their impeccable timing. They’re the co-founders of local company the Daily Palette. This company that started in 2018 is the very first grazing company to launch in Vancouver, and is responsible for igniting the trend here.

Vancity has been supporting people in our communities since 1946, like local food creators. As part of our Made in Vancouver series spotlighting local businesses and artists, we talked to Jenessa and Stacy, about joining forces and creating something together.

“We started this company because food is where everyone tends to gather at events,” they told Daily Hive. “We wanted to create something that would be the centre point of so many lasting memories and connections,” they added.

It wasn’t just the creation of the product, but the mission that Daily Palette represented.

“Health is also super important to us and we wanted to offer something super fun and interactive while also being healthy-let’s face it, we all know someone with some kind of food restrictions so we wanted to create a platter that welcomes all! Who said healthy can’t also be delicious?” they said.

Both aspects of the business are important to them because it’s integral to the success of their business. Pulling it off meant the joining of their expertise. The company was founded by a nutritionist and designer who joined forces to create the most stunning edible pieces of art.

They offer both vegetarian and vegan grazing options filling our boxes and platters using the best local companies Vancouver has to offer.

While they don’t yet have a storefront, the grazing boxes are made completely available online for pick-up and delivery. For every occasion, they offer vegan and vegetarian grazing boxes, boards, and tables.

The beauty of our products really make for a wow factor and some great conversations,” they said.

The best way to make that happen is to order whatever sounds the best to you — or take their advice on what the most popular item is.

Our most popular is our Duo Nourish Box. It’s the perfect size for 2-4 people and includes a bit of everything,” they said.

The global pandemic has been difficult to navigate through, but it’s never gotten the Daily Palette duo down.

“What started out as large grazing tables and platters has now turned into smaller and individual to go boxes,” they said.

“We have had to become very innovated with new ideas and strategies to be able to continue to operate. Although all of these new changes have been a lot to figure out we have loved the process and have grown so much from it. We just can’t believe how amazing the community is to have supported us through all the changes!” they added.

People love to change things up at home, especially in fun ways around the dinner table. Try a Daily Palette box and see what everyone in Vancouver has been talking about.

“We love seeing all the smilies when clients pick up their order and the excitement when someone receives a box as a gift. It truly is why we do what we do. By supporting us you are also supporting so many other local businesses as we try and source as much as possible from other amazing local companies.”
