Canada’s path to a gold medal in men’s hockey may have taken a blow on Wednesday.

Going up against Czechia in the quarter final, Sidney Crosby was forced to head down the tunnel in the second period after taking two hard hits from Radko Gudas. The second of the two checks appeared to hurt the 38-year-old, who sat on the bench for a few minutes before making his way back to the dressing room.

Crosby had been centring a line with Mark Stone and Mitch Marner on his wings. Should he remain out of the lineup, fans should expect to see even more of Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. Bo Horvat, who is centring the fourth line, could also see an uptick in ice time.

Crosby, serving as Canada’s captain, has had an excellent tournament so far. He entered Wednesday’s game with two goals and six points through three games. He’s not only logging plenty of ice time at even strength, but has been playing on the top power play unit.

During the second intermission, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Crosby will miss the remainder of the game.

Fans should expect to hear a further update from head coach Jon Cooper postgame.
