BC health officials report 711 new COVID-19 cases

BC health officials said on Friday that 711 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the province, bringing the provincially recorded total to 36,132.

In a written statement, BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that by specific health region, this equates to 143 new cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 427 in the Fraser Health region, 10 in the Island Health region, 81 in the Interior Health region, and 50 in the Northern Health region.

There are 9,050 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 338 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 76 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Currently, 10,957 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, and there have been 11 new COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 492 deaths in British Columbia.

There are two new healthcare facility outbreaks at Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Lodge and at Richmond Hospital.

A total of 25,658 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have now recovered.
