BC health officials report 582 new COVID-19 cases

BC health officials said on Thursday that 582 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the province, bringing the provincially recorded total to 48,609.

In a written briefing, BC Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that by specific health region, this equates to 107 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 326 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 10 in the Island Health region, 71 in the Interior Health region, 68 in the Northern Health region, and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.

There are 8,865 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are 341 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 78 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Currently, 9,732 people are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, and there have been 12 new COVID-19-related deaths, for a total of 808 deaths in British Columbia.

A total of 37,784 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have now recovered.
