Check your pantry, because if you bought rice from Costco, it may be part of a massive recall.
Costco has issued a recall on Kirkland Signature Traditional Basmati Rice due to the “possible presence of insects.”
According to the voluntary recall notice circulating on social media and confirmed by Daily Hive, the basmati rice was sold in Costco warehouses in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba between May and July this year.
“If you believe you have the Kirkland Signature Basmati Rice in your possession, do not consume it,” advised the Costco recall notice.
A Costco customer service representative confirmed that the affected product is the 5 kg bag of Kirkland Signature Traditional Basmati Rice. The affected batch numbers are SS/01/25/5922 and SS/01/25/5923.
Those in possession of the impacted basmati rice can bring it into a Costco warehouse for a full refund. While the recall has not been posted on its website as of press time, the Costco representative also stated that all recall notices can be found in-store at the customer service desk.

Several Costco shoppers also shared online that they received emails and automated phone calls from Costco about the recall of the Kirkland Signature Traditional Basmati Rice. Some reported seeing insects in their bags, although one person’s bag batch number did not match the notice.
“We got an email today regarding the recall and can confirm ours had bugs and we threw it out in May,” said one Reddit user.
“Whoa. I didnāt get the message, but I did find that my Kirkland basmati has bugs in it,” added another person. “Bought a bit before May.”
“I just checked mine. Dug towards the bottom of the bag and found a lot of tiny beetle type bugs. All still alive and crawling around. Disgusting! Our bag is lot #SS/01/25/5924.”
