Two correctional officers at a medium-security prison in Mission, BC, have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Union of Canadian Correctional Officers.

The Mission Medium Institution also has the highest number of inmates who have tested positive for COVID-19 out of any federal institution in the country.

According to data from Correctional Service Canada, 14 inmates from the medium-security prison have contracted COVID-19 and 21 are currently being tested for the virus.

In a press conference today, Dr. Victoria Lee, president and CEO of Fraser Health, addressed the outbreak at the prison, stating that medical supports are being made available, but individual cases are managed by different federal and provincial bodies.

Earlier this month, BC health officials confirmed the province’s first outbreak in a prison setting at a correctional facility in the Okanagan.
