Schools in Vancouver, Richmond report new coronavirus exposures

Vancouver Coastal Health identified potential coronavirus exposure at two more schools on Friday: one in Richmond and one in Vancouver.

Kingswood Elementary in east Richmond had someone with coronavirus at school on October 5 and 6.

In Vancouver, Prince of Wales Mini School had someone who was contagious come to school on October 1, 2, and 5.

Contact tracers work to get in touch with close contacts directly, and Vancouver Coastal Health says anyone who hasn’t received a phone call can come to school as normal.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said schools aren’t playing a major role in “amplifying” coronavirus spread at a news conference Monday.

“We still see that the proportion of cases in school aged-children remains low – less than 10% – and that has been consistent in the three-to four weeks since schools have opened,” she said.
