There was potential coronavirus exposure at Wreck Beach recently

Vancouver Coastal Health has issued a public warning about potential coronavirus exposure at Wreck Beach.

The health authority says someone who tested positive for COVID-19 visited the beach on August 15. VCH didn’t specify what part of the beach the person or people hung around, and listed the potential exposure timeframe as “all day.”

The picturesque sandy beach on the University of British Columbia’s campus is known for being the city’s only clothing-optional beach.

On the weekend of August 15, footage emerged from Wreck Beach showing massive crowds apparently paying little attention to physical distancing guidelines.

The beach is usually the site of drum circles and impromptu parties in regular years, although those activities are now taboo during the pandemic.

August 15 was exactly 13 days before the exposure notice was issued. That means people who were at the beach only need to watch for symptoms for one more day.

Anyone who did feel ill after going to Wreck Beach on August 15 should make arrangements to get a coronavirus test.
