BC health officials announce 55 new coronavirus cases, two more deaths

On Tuesday afternoon, British Columbia health officials announced 55 new test-positive coronavirus cases and another two deaths as a result of the virus.

During a press conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said the total number of recorded cases in the province now sits at 2,053.

Broken down by health region, Henry said there are 803 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 918 in Fraser Health, 119 on Vancouver Island, 168 in Interior Health, and 45 in Northern Health.

Out of the total number of cases, 94 people are in hospital, with 37 of those in intensive care. A total of 1,231 people “are now considered fully recovered,” said Henry.

Of the total number of cases, Henry said 46 are related to cases at Superior Poultry, and 34 at United Poultry. There are also currently 391 cases associated with long-term care homes in the province.

At the federal institution in Mission, 120 inmates and 12 staff have now tested positive for COVI-19, as well.
