Police first alerted the public to the ongoing incident just before 1 p.m., stating that Coquitlam RCMP is responding to a possible threat at a school in the 500 block of Poirier Street.
“At approximately 12:25 p.m. on February 4, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP received a report of a possible threat to a school in the 500 block of Poirier Street, Coquitlam,” the detachment posted on social media.
“The school was placed into a hold and secure and Coquitlam RCMP officers are currently on-scene.”

Less than an hour later, at 1:36 p.m., authorities posted a second update stating that there were several reports of alleged threats to multiple schools in the city.
Coquitlam RCMP worked with various partner agencies, including the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.
“On February 4, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP received multiple reports of alleged threats against various schools throughout the Coquitlam School District,” said RCMP in an emailed statement.
“Affected schools within the district have been placed under a hold and secure and Coquitlam RCMP officers are on-scene.”
In an update made this afternoon, Inspector Veronica Fox, Community Programs and Administration Officer, said that she wanted to assure the public that every measure will be taken to identify the origins of the threats.
“All of the affected schools have been cleared and the hold and secures have been lifted; however, out of an abundance of caution, our officers continue to remain on-scene.”
The ongoing incident in the Coquitlam School District comes just days after RCMP responded to a threat at a school in the same 500 block of Poirier Street on Jan. 28, 2026.
Additional Coquitlam schools in the area were placed on hold and secure out of an abundance of caution.
