Police investigating after 91-year-old woman struck by bus

After a lengthy road closure on Thursday, police continue to investigate after an elderly woman was struck by a bus in Coquitlam.

According to a statement from the RCMP, the incident took place at the intersection of Shaugnessy Street and Wilson Avenue in Port Coquitlam.

Police were called just before 12:30 pm and early information suggests that the 91-year-old was struck while the bus was making a turn from Shaugnessy onto Wilson.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the driver is said to be investigating with the cooperation.

At this point in time, there is no indication of speed or impairment being factors.

“Investigations into serious collisions typically take a considerable amount of time,” said Michael McLaughlin, Media Relations Officer for the Coquitlam RCMP. “Police gather and analyze evidence, review video, speak to witnesses, and bring in experts to evaluate data.”
