Morning building fire prompts closure along Commercial Drive
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) was on scene at a fire on Commercial Drive on Thursday morning,
According to a post on X from officials, crews responded to the fire in a mixed-use building on the 1000 block of Commercial Drive.
Commercial Drive was closed between Parker and Napier Street while crews battled the blaze.

According to a picture of the scene posted by VFRS, the closure appears to be near several businesses, including Choices Market and Brittania Sushi.
In an email statement to Daily Hive, VFRS Cpt. Matt Trudeau said firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from a mixed occupancy building on the 1000 block of Commercial Drive at 9:27 a.m.
“VFRS investigators who [were returning] from another fire saw smoke coming from the roof area of the two-storey building,” stated Trudeau.
“They evacuated the residents from the 2nd storey as fire crews arrived and started search and fire attack operations.”
Trudeau said the fire was extinguished in the first-floor building, and crews were able to prevent fire damage to adjacent business and residential units above.
No injuries were reported, and an investigation is ongoing.
