Is your small space bringing out your inner Grinch this holiday season? Does your creativity end at a miniature tree from Costco? We’ve searched the web and selected our five favourite solutions.
Head over to your local hardware store and pick out a sheet of plywood that suits your space. Keep in mind, there are many species of finished plywood from walnut to birch. Use regular screws to outline the shape of the tree and string the lights in between. The great thing about this is you can use this tree again next year! Get the instructions from a Pair and a Spare on how to make one.
Need an excuse to get outside? Go on your favourite hike and prune a few branches along the way (is this allowed? we’re not sure!). Thumbtack or nail them into the wall in the shape or size you like. Throw a few ornaments up and voila! Your place will smell and look like the real thing. See instructions from Domino on how to make one.
Feeling crafty? This one requires a bit more of a time commitment. Visit your favourite hardware store and pick up a few PVC pipes ranging from 1” to 4.5” in diameter (you’ll need a few sizes). While you’re there grab some epoxy adhesive, white spray paint and select a sheet of plywood. Pull some favours and get the pipes cut into various lengths ranging from 2” to 3 1/2”. Spray paint all the pieces white and glue them to the plywood. Fill the spaces with ornaments that suit your style or display your existing collection. Want to be festive this season but feeling stretched? This simple, inexpensive option is sure to be a crowd-pleaser and will only take you a few minutes to make. Stop by a craft store and pick up a roll of Kraft paper, white chalk and string lights. Pin up the Kraft paper, sketch out a tree using the white chalk and pin the string lights on. Ornaments are optional. Done and done.
