Vancouver LunarFest 2017 brings in the Year of the Rooster

For this year’s Chinese New Year festivities, Vancouver LunarFest is ringing in the Year of the Rooster at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza.

The festival started in 2009 as part of the Winter Olympic’s cultural legacy – since then, it has expanded the festival to Toronto and has a number of locations around BC.

This year, LunarFest is hosting a number of events and activities. The Rooster Winter Games is a nod back to the Winter Olympics that started the festival, and there will also be fortune telling, rooster-themed crafts, pottery workshops.

On Saturday and Sunday, you’ll be able to see bird-walkers – people dressed as birds and walking on stilts throughout the plaza.

There will also be live performances: Yours Truly, a K-Pop cover dance group, from 5 to 5:45 pm on Saturday at CBC Studio 700 and Cheondoon Korean Drum, traditional Korean percussion group, from 1 to 1:30 pm on Sunday at the Plaza.

LunarFest isn’t just limited to the weekend of activities though. The Art of the Rooster Exhibition is being held at Oakridge Centre until February 5, and features a number of emerging Taiwanese artists.
