John Prpich from Port Alberni and David Dubbin from Nanaimo have been childhood friends for decades. They grew up playing hockey together, they’ve been buying lottery tickets together for more than 30 years, and now, they’re BC’s newest multi-millionaires.
Prpich and Dubbin are the latest winners of the Lotto 6/49 Jackpot, matching all six numbers and taking home a cool $19.8 million.
Naturally, the pair is still in disbelief after the life-changing win.
“I was in the bathroom and my wife was on the computer and said that someone in Nanaimo won,” said Dubbin. “I looked at my wife and asked if I was dreaming.”
“I was just glad to tell myĀ kids,” Prpich added. “Now my kids are going to be okay.”
Plans for spending the winnings include new houses and cars, as well as travelling the world. Dubbin, who’s an avid golfer, plans to go to Thailand. Prpich will be going to Australia with his wife.
The timing for their win couldn’t be better, either. Dubbin had plans to retire in the coming January. Prpich plans to work a few more times “just for bragging rights” – then he’ll call it quits.
