Richmond RCMP are investigating a suspicious incident where a man allegedly tried to lure a child into his vehicle near an elementary school.

It happened around 3:30 pm on September 14 outside Samuel Brighouse Elementary, when Mounties say a man driving a champagne-coloured van allegedly told a young boy that he knew the child’s mother and was supposed to pick him up.

The boy became suspicious, and ran away. He made it home safe.

Police initially identified one suspect, but have since ruled him out. They’re now appealing for witnesses and help to identify the man who approached the boy.

The man is described as Asian, possibly with an accent, and about 50 years old with short black hair. He was wearing white shirt and a gold chain at the time, and apparently had a pimples, freckles, or other types of dots on his face.

Anyone with information can contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
