Chatime is launching a selection of dairy-free bubble teas

A growing number of Canadians are reducing their dairy intake and opting for alternatives instead. In 2019 alone, the demand for oat milk increased by 500% across the country.

Today, one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing bubble tea brands, Chatime, is offering this substitute for its beloved menu.

Bubble tea enthusiasts living in Ontario and BC can now order drinks from Chatime’s Signature Milk Tea category with barista grade oat milk as a non-dairy option.

Chatime is supporting local by working with the plant-based Canadian supplier Earth’s Own and its Barista Line Oat Milk. This oak milk is now available with bubble tea favourites on the Chatime menu, including the Chatime Pearl Milk Tea and Grass Jelly Roasted Milk Tea.

“Based on our consumer research and feedback, we know non-dairy is highly coveted by our guests and we are thrilled to make it happen,” Kenton Chan, CEO of Chatime Group Canada said in a release.

In the Ontario market, Chatime recently introduced seasonal drinks as part of its collaboration with Vitasoy North America, one being the soy-based Strawberry Smoothie. This item was met with a popular response, plus requests for Chatime to add dairy-free options to its permanent menu.

For anyone unfamiliar with oat milk, Chatime suggests trying the Brown Sugar Pearl Oat Milk. It marries two highly popular trends in one drink. Picture Chatime’s famous brown sugar pearls swirled in a kaleidoscope of creamy oat milk and caramelized brown sugar.

In addition to the Brown Sugar Pearl Oat Milk, visitors to all of Chatime’s stores in Ontario and select stores in BC can add oat milk to many of the tasty milk teas and tea lattes on the menu.

This includes but is not limited to the Chatime Signature Pearl Milk Tea, Grass Jelly Roasted Milk Tea, Earl Grey Milk Tea, Matcha Milk Tea, Jasmine Green Milk Tea, Genmaicha Milk Tea, and Iron Goddess Milk Tea, amongst many more drinks.

To make this happen, an additional fee of $0.75 will be added to orders placed in-store or for pickup. For all orders placed through Chatime Online Ordering, Uber Eats, DoorDash, and other delivery platforms, a fee of $0.95 will be applied.

In BC, oat milk is now an option available at the following Chatime bubble tea store locations:

  • Vancouver (UBC, West Broadway, East Hastings, Cambie)
  • West Vancouver (Park Royal)
  • Burnaby (Metrotown, Kingsway)
  • Richmond (Blundell)
  • New Westminster (6th Street)
  • Surrey (King George)

Back in 2011, Chatime launched its inaugural store in Ontario at Yonge and Dundas in Toronto. Since then, it has grown to over 1,000 locations worldwide — 80 of which are here in Canada.

To experience dairy-free bubble tea for yourself this summer, head to the Chatime website to find your nearest store.
