Changing Tides, A Photo Exhibition & Auction for Japan

Dec 19 2017, 1:25 pm

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Alumni Association of BC is presenting Changing Tides, a photo exhibition and silent auction to raise funds in support of Japanese NGOs who are actively working in the northeastern region of Japan that was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. The event will be held on Saturday, Feb 18, from 6-9pm at the National Nikkei Museum & Heritage Centre at 6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby.

The silent auction will feature live musical and dance performances (such as the Japanese koto and shakuhachi), refreshments, and the chance to bid on some amazing items such as a one night stay for two at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, a signed hockey stick and signed jersey by the Vancouver Canucks, tickets for two on Harbour Cruises, and more.

The photo exhibit features photos that highlight the natural and cultural beauty of the northeastern region of Japan, while other photos capture the chaos following the disaster and the ongoing efforts to rebuild and restore the area. The exhibit also includes anecdotes from former JET participants who share their experiences and connections to their Japanese “home away from home”.

Tickets to the silent auction are $10 and can be bought at the door or online at www.eventbrite.ca/event/2800387033?ebtv=C, or requested through [email protected].  All proceeds will be donated to the Peace Boat and Living Dreams NGOs in Japan.
