Celebrities Nightclub reopens after major renovation

It is reminiscent of some of the amazing entertainment venues I have been to in Asia; its new look sets a new Vancouver standard. Celebrities Nightclub re-opened earlier this week after a two-month long, $1-million major renovation. The aim of the makeover was not only to revitalize the club’s aesthetic look and modernize its audio/visual equipment, but also to design a new entertainment venue that will allow it to expand its following beyond the traditional LGBT crowds.

There is no question that Celebrities has been a pioneer, leader, and stable for Vancouver’s gay nightlife scene ever since it opened in 1978. However, in recent years, the club has also gained a large non-LGBT following due to its high appeal to a diverse spectrum of patrons and its ability to attract internationally renown DJs and performers.

Moving forward, the venue will no longer necessarily be a gay nightclub (although its gay clientele will remain as its main focus) and will expand on the heavily themed programming it was already known for prior to its January 2013 closure for renovations.

The recent renovations have turned Celebrities into a nightclub within a new music event space. The venue’s owners, Blueprint Events, hopes that its major investment will pay off and attract big-name acts and artists.

So what is different about Celebrities today? The old interior has been completely gutted out to make way for a new interior layout. It is also now outfitted with a programmable LED lighting system that blankets the entire redesigned space including on the ceilings, walls, bar and seating areas. A new sound system has also been installed onto the dance floor and new stage area.

Celebrities has a capacity for 500 people within its 7,000 square foot space inside the 1908-built historic building. It will have a grand opening celebration on the weekend of March 22 and 23.
