When Castle Fun Park could reopen as evacuation orders are modified

An evacuation order has been downgraded for Castle Fun Park and the surrounding areas, but people should not let their guard down just yet.

According to a notice from the City of Abbotsford, the evacuation order for folks in and around Castle Fun Park and Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre has been downgraded to an evacuation alert.

Castle Fun Park was recently closed due to flooding.

However, the City cautions that folks at both properties should remain prepared to evacuate “at a moment’s notice, should conditions change.”

“Evacuation Orders remain in place for 75 properties, and 410 properties remain under Evacuation Alert. The interactive map, which is searchable by address, has been updated to show the status of all properties in the evacuation area, indicating whether they are under Order or Alert,” the City of Abbotsford adds.

Damage is being assessed in the area, which will impact evacuation alerts, with the potential for downgrading of some orders as the evaluations are concluded.

“Staff in the Emergency Operations Centre and in the field continue to actively monitor river levels, dikes, roads and weather conditions closely,” the City says.

There have been significant impacts to the region, including highways, due to wet weather over the past week, and a landslide recently closed another major B.C. highway.

Additionally, an atmospheric river in the forecast could make things tricky in the Fraser Valley.

Castle Fun Park became a talking point in 2021 when the Abbotsford area experienced severe flooding due to a major atmospheric river. The recreation spot and arcade were closed due to significant damage incurred during that storm. The park reopened in 2022.

In a recent Instagram post, Castle Fun Park said that it expects to remain closed until at least Wednesday, but will conduct an assessment tomorrow as the weather continues to improve.

“Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. Unless there is any significant change, our next update will be shared on Tuesday — and as always, please rely on our official channels for accurate information,” the post states.
