A huge FREE street festival returns to Surrey next month

With gas prices remaining volatile in Metro Vancouver, local drivers are looking for ways to leave their vehicles at home, even for a day. A Car Free Day event happening in Surrey next month is encouraging them to do so while packing in a bunch of fun.

The fifth-annual Car Free Day Surrey, hosted by the Newton Business Improvement Association and TransLink, is happening on Saturday, June 6, along 137th Street.

The free day-long event features a lineup of live entertainment, family-friendly activities, local eats and food vendors, and more.

“Step into the heart of Newton for a day full of community, culture, and car-free fun,” said TransLink online.

“Whether you’re grooving to live beats, cheering on talented dancers, or soaking up the sunshine with a snack in hand, Car Free Day Surrey is your go-to summer kickoff.”

Visitors will find lots to see and do during the free street party, including live music and performances on three stages on 137th Street. There will also be a welcome ceremony on the dance stage at 3:30 p.m.

Bring the whole family to check out the all-ages activities like the climbing wall, bounce houses, and mini golf.

Of course, a street party wouldn’t be complete without delicious food, and guests can look forward to treats like burgers, mini donuts, kettle corn, and spiral potatoes.

Then explore the artisan market filled with local vendors showcasing handmade goods and unique items.

Since the event is all about sustainable travel, attendees are encouraged to pedal to the party,” added TransLink. “A secure Bike Valet will be on-site, allowing you to lock up your ride for free so you can head straight for the mini donuts and live performances.”
