Sure they didn’t actually make a deal. However, I’d argue that they did. They re-signed Alex Burrows to a 4 year $8 million deal. That to me was as good as any deal they could have made, he is the heart and soul of the team. He’s versatile and has amassed quite a few points with little to no powerplay time. He kills penalties, agitates, checks and can put the puck in the net from time to time. At $2 million a year this may look like a steal a year from now.
Of course yesterday you had the usual people rambling on and on how this team should have made a deal and that they owe it to the fans etc…What most fans forget is that making a trade this close to end of the season can wreak havoc to a teams chemistry. As of right now the ‘Nucks are firing on all cylinders and thus I didn’t think they need to make any drastic changes. Minor tweaks maybe, however teams were asking for far too much.All in all I’m perfectly comfortable with the team we got going into the playoffs. Oh and remember Mats Sundin was this teams “deadline” deal.
