This promises to be a stressful week for Brock Boeser and the Vancouver Canucks.
With just four days to go before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, the 28-year-old’s future in Vancouver is very much in doubt.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is reportedly working on a pair of potential trades, but will any of them include Boeser?
A pending unrestricted free agent, the Canucks must re-sign Boeser by Friday or risk losing him for nothing this summer. It’s not an easy decision, given Vancouver is in a race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. What message would it send to the team if they trade arguably their top goal scorer?
Then again, what message would it send to fans if they let him walk for nothing?
After scoring a career-high 40 goals last season, Boeser’s numbers have dipped in 2024-25. The Minnesota native has just 18 goals this season, putting him on pace for 25 goals, as Vancouver has just 22 games left.
Canucks management hasn’t appeared to be overly enamoured by Boeser, at least not publicly. Is that because of his lack of foot speed? Are they just playing coy with a player they know wants to stay?
Boeser reportedly rejected a five-year contract offer from the Canucks worth $8 million annually earlier this season. By contrast, AF Analytics projects Boeser to earn over $9 million per season on a seven-year deal.
The longest current serving member of the Canucks has been the subject of discussion among a number of insiders today.
TSN’s Darren Dreger said he believes the contract offer made to Boeser earlier in the season is now off the table.
“They are not close on a contract,” Rick Dhaliwal said on Monday’s edition of Donnie and Dhali.
Dhaliwal added that Boeser felt disrespected at times during the negotiation, but that he still wants to stay.
“Boeser does want to return. He loves it in Vancouver.”
"They couldn't cut a deal in 8 months; how are they going to cut a deal in 5 days? It would be shocking to me if they cut a deal in 5 days.."@DhaliwalSports updated what he is hearing with #Canucks Forward Brock Boeser ahead of Friday's trade deadline.https://t.co/h4e2SKM7eJ pic.twitter.com/2OZ9LOlZlN

If they do decide to trade Boeser, it doesn’t appear that the market is hot for him.
“The problem is only playoff teams want Boeser and most of them are tight up against the cap. Not many of those teams want to cough up a first-round pick for Boeser,” Dhaliwal added. “The market for Boeser is not as big as some people think it is.”
Boeser’s contract carries a $6.65-million cap hit and includes a 10-team no-trade list.
It wouldn’t be surprising at all if the Canucks kept Boeser past the deadline. From Vancouver’s perspective they still believe they are a playoff team and that’s important. After the five-year offer that was rejected, Boeser’s camp now just waiting on what VAN wants to do.

The Canucks might just keep Boeser, even without an extension in place, according to Canucks insider Irfaan Gaffar and Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects.
“It wouldn’t be surprising at all if the Canuck skept Boeser past the deadline,” Gaffar said.
“From Vancouver’s perspective, they still believe they are a playoff team and that’s important. After the five-year offer that was rejected, Boeser’s camp [is] now just waiting on what [Vancouver] wants to do.”
And so are we.
