With everyone except Italy announcing their Olympic roster, the Vancouver Canucks had six players in their organization tasked with representing their country.
On Tuesday, that became seven.
Latvia announced that Canucks prospect Anri Ravinskis was named to their Olympic roster as an injury replacement. He gets the nod in place of 20-year-old Washington Capitals prospect Äriks Mateiko, who will miss the Olympics after he suffered a skate cut injury on the weekend.
Ravinskis was originally signed by the Canucks back in May after he enjoyed some success as a 22-year-old in Finland’s top hockey league. However, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound winger endured a tougher start to the season after being sidelined due to injury.
The Riga, Latvia native had hernia surgery in the summer, forcing him to miss most of training camp. He didn’t make his debut for the Abbotsford Canucks until Oct. 17. He also played just twice for Abbotsford in December after sitting in the press box for a chunk of games.
So far this season, Ravinskis has two goals and three points in 22 AHL contests. Only journeyman Jujhar Khaira and defenceman Nikolay Knyzov have played more games for Abbotsford while posting fewer points.
However, he has scored his first two career AHL goals in January, including the game-winner in Abbotsford’s last contest against the Calgary Wranglers.

Ravinskis has represented his country at both the junior and international levels previously, including an appearance for Latvia at the World Championships last spring. He had one goal and two points in seven games.
The young winger will join current Canucks centre Teddy Blueger for Latvia at the Olympics. He’ll also play alongside former Canucks netminder ArtÅ«rs Å ilovs, along with Canucks 2019 draft pick Rodrido Abols, who currently plays for the Philadelphia Flyers.
