A statue of the late, great Pat Quinn was unveiled outside of Rogers Arena on Saturday.
Unlike the nearby Roger Neilson statue, this one is a lot more low-key, and should serve as a photo op for many.
Here’s how it looks during today, without the fanfare of last night:
It’s a life-size statue of the larger-than-life figure. The former 6-foot-3 defenceman, turned head coach, general manager, and president was an influential person on the Canucks franchise. His statue faces a street named after him, in front of a building where his name/picture is featured in the Ring of Honour.
Ownership, management, alumni, and Pat’s daughter Kalli were on hand for the unveiling.
The unique part of this statue is Pat’s bench, added because of Quinn’s time in Salt Lake City as head coach of Canada’s Olympic gold-winning hockey team. Quinn would often sit on a particular bench outside of Canada House, and athletes from all sports would frequently visit him to chat.
The bench also has an inspiring quote from Quinn on it: “Obey your passion, listen to your heart, follow your dreams.”
