Would you expect anything less in Vancouver?
The Vancouver Canucks are 11 games into the season, with a 5-6 record that ranks 25th overall in the league. Their six regulation losses are tied for third-most in the NHL, alongside the St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks.
Suffice to say, it’s not quite the hot start that Quinn Hughes envisioned.
A lack of chance generation, subpar defence, and a leaky penalty kill have all been issues.
However, the growing list of injuries has undoubtedly been a factor as well.
Conor Garland exited Tuesday’s game against the New York Rangers with an unspecified injury. He did get rocked in the first period on a solid check by Rangers’ forward Sam Carrick. However, he continued playing until the end of the second period.
Rick Dhaliwal reported today that Garland won’t be on the Canucks upcoming three-game road trip, and that winger Mackenzie MacEachern has been recalled.
Hearing Conor Garland is not serious but also hearing he is not going on the road trip.
Will have more on the show. https://t.co/tP87O5jOzj

With Garland injured, the Canucks now have eight regular players injured, which leads the NHL.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, and Pittsburgh Penguins all have six regular NHL players missing in action, putting them in a tie for having the second-most injured players, behind the Canucks.
Florida, of course, is missing stars Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk, and they’re off to a pedestrian 5-5-1 start.
However, the Hurricanes, Devils, and Penguins haven’t used injuries as an excuse. The Penguins and Devils are currently tied atop the NHL with 16 points. Carolina has performed to their usual standard, with six wins in nine games to start the season.
Of course, none of these teams is as banged up as the Canucks.

Here’s a list of all eight Canucks who are currently injured, along with their timelines from the club.
- Quinn Hughes (lower body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 24 against Montreal Canadiens
- Filip Chytil (undisclosed, no timeline): Injured Oct. 19 against Washington Capitals
- Jonathan Lekkerimaki (undisclosed, expected back in two weeks). Injured Oct. 19 against the Washington Capitals
- Teddy Blueger (lower-body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 19 against Washington Capitals
- Nils Höglander (ankle, expected back in 4-6 weeks): Injured Sept. 24 against Calgary Flames
- Derek Forbort (undisclosed, no timeline): Injured Oct. 11 against the Edmonton Oilers
- Victor Mancini (upper body, day-to-day): Injured Oct. 25 against the Edmonton Oilers
- Conor Garland (unspecified, out for at least one week): Injured Oct. 29 against New York Rangers
The Canucks are about to embark on a three-game road trip, facing three teams with underwhelming records in the St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators.
However, there are no easy games in the NHL, especially for a Canucks team lacking depth while missing one-third of their regular players.
The Blues and Predators have both already defeated the Canucks in regulation this season, and Vancouver has lost seven straight road games to the Wild as well.
