Perhaps all the Vancouver Canucks had to do to get back to their winning ways was air out their dirty laundry.
The team beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 on Wednesday night, their third consecutive win. This string of victories comes against the backdrop of President Jim Rutherford speaking honestly in the media, confirming rumours of a massive feud between two of their best players.Ā
But the increased noise hasn’t seemed to affect the Canucks negatively, in fact it’s been the opposite. Maybe this is what they needed all along? Or perhaps it was the “internal meetings” goalie Thatcher Demko revealed when speaking postgame.
“We’ve been battling that consistency all year. We had some internal meetings about it being that time of year, we need to string some games together here,” said Demko.
“Getting the last three is huge for us.”
The Canucks are now one point ahead of the Calgary Flames for the last Wild Card spot, although the Flames do have a game in hand. They also trail the Los Angeles Kings by only two points for the third Pacific Division playoff spot, but the Kings have two games in hand.

Demko put in perhaps his best performance of the season. He made 31 saves and allowed just a single goal, picking up his fourth victory of the year.
“He’s a world-class goalie. I have a ton of confidence in the guy so that’s why we started him and he was awesome tonight,” said head coach Rick Tocchet.
The recent winning streak could not have come at a better time as the Canucks have kept themselves firmly in the hunt. They have just five more games until a lengthy break for the 4 Nations Face-Off and they’ll look to keep up this good play.
“We’ve got to keep moving along this thing, keep grinding away,” continued Tocchet.
Nothing has come easy for the Canucks this season. They’ve faced roadblock after roadblock, many self-inflicted. Despite it all, they still are in the thick of a playoff race with a few months left in the season.
