Vancouver’s first theme night dedicated to the city’s Filipino community is coming up on Friday, Dec. 5, as the Canucks take on the Utah Mammoth.

Today, the Canucks unveiled a Filipino-themed logo designed by local artist Karissa Narumaki.

Her logo features the colours of the Philippines’ flag, along with three stars that represent the main island regions of the country.

“I hope that when people see this logo, they see themselves in it,” Narumaki’s sister, Aiko, said. “I also hope they see Karissa for who she is, and that she’s capable of doing amazing things.”

Of course, with a new logo released, there are new jerseys available for purchase as well.

VanBase currently has 18 new items related to Filipino night available to buy. That includes the new Filipino night jersey, which costs $750.

Other items, such as a hoodie for $90, a T-shirt for $40, or a hat for $45, won’t break the bank.

Filipino Heritage Night will also include a “Party on the Plaza” outside Roger Arena, beginning at 4 p.m., featuring live music, dance performances, and food samples.

In-game, Filipino broadcaster Rhea Santos will join the presentation crew. There will also be a Filipino Heritage Market inside Rogers Arena.

ā€œWe are honoured to host the first Filipino Heritage celebration at Rogers Arena,ā€ Canucks Sports and Entertainment president Michael Doyle said in a press release. ā€œThis inaugural event is a special opportunity to celebrate the Filipino community, whose vibrant culture, rich traditions, and strong sense of unity have had a tremendous impact on our province.”

The game will be the first back at Rogers Arena for the Canucks, after a four-game road trip where they play the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Colorado Avalanche.

It’s an earlier start time than usual on Dec. 5, with the puck dropping at 6 p.m.
