Training camp has wrapped up in Penticton, as the Vancouver Canucks prepare to start preseason.
In preparation for those games, the team announced nine cuts to its roster. Josh Bloom, Jackson Kunz, Cooper Walker, and Dino Kambeitz have all been sent down to the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks.
Meanwhile, Aleksei Medvedev, Kieren Dervin, Gabriel Chiarot, Riley Patterson, and Zack Sandhu are all heading back to their junior teams.

The most high-profile player cut was Medvedev, an 18-year-old Russian goaltender the Canucks selected in the second round of last June’s draft. As the youngest of seven goaltenders the Canucks brought to camp, Medvedev has a bright future. It’s not a surprise that won’t get into a preseason game, given the depth the Canucks have at his position.
Dervin and Chiarot were also 2025 draft picks. Patterson, meanwhile, was a fourth-round pick by Vancouver in 2024.
The Canucks play their first preseason game Sunday night in Seattle, with recent first-round picks Tom Willander and Braeden Cootes expected to suit up.
