The Edmonton Oilers were catching some strays following the Abbottsford Canucks Calder Cup celebration.
Vancouver’s AHL affiliate made history over the weekend, defeating the Charlotte Checkers to capture the first-ever Calder Cup championship in franchise history. Goaltender Arturs Silovs backstopped the Canucks to the victory, taking home playoff MVP honours as well.
Oilers fans know Silovs well, having faced him in the second round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but that was not the source of the troll.
It instead came from defenceman Sawyer Mynio, who took to social media to thank Edmonton for ex-Oilers forward Jujhar Khaira, who appeared in 24 AHL playoff games during Abbotsford’s run.

Khaira was originally drafted by the Oilers in the third round of the 2013 NHL draft. He made his debut in the Alberta capital during the 2015-16 season and appeared in 258 NHL games with Edmonton over six seasons.
While he was never the most productive player — topping out at 21 points in 2017-18 — he became a fan favourite among the Oilers faithful, primarily for his work ethic and fighting ability.
Mynio seems to be taking a page out of Brad Marchand’s book, as he thanked the previous organizations of his Florida Panthers teammates on social media after celebrating a Stanley Cup championship earlier this month.
It is a bit strange that Mynio only tagged the Oilers in this post. Khaira last played for the Oilers back in 2020-21, but has since gone on to play NHL games with other organizations like the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild. He most recently played with the Tampa Bay Lightning’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, before being traded to Abbotsford this past season.
This is a bit of a bizarre troll, but one that shouldn’t bother Oilers fans all that much. If anything, the fanbase will be happy to see that Khaira is still playing at a professional level and finding ways to find success.
