Canada’s top yoyo competitors will have their shot on the national stage, as the 2017 Canadian National Return Top Competition comes to New Westminster on Saturday, March 25.
The toy that many received as a Christmas present back in the day has been taken to its extreme, with competitors mastering the intricate balance of spinning metal on cat’s cradle-like creations.

Forget walking the dog or rocking the baby, the tricks that are winning competitions these days are a blur of miraculously knotless strings woven around high-grade plastic, aircraft aluminum, or titanium tops.
The winners this weekend will have a chance to represent Canada at the World Yoyo Contest this August in Reykjavik, Iceland, for a three day event with yoyo-ers from all around the world.
The Canadian Yo-yo Association — which is hosting the New West event — encourages yoyo enthusiasts of any skill to come out, enjoy the show, and maybe learn a new trick or two.
