Imagine breaking your arm and needing surgery for it.
Now imagine playing an NHL game two weeks later.
That’s what Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot is doing.
The native of Sainte-Marie, Que., broke his arm a mere 17 days ago, when he was cross-checked by New York Rangers centre J.T. Miller. Surgery followed, and he was expected to miss the rest of the regular season and playoff games, too, with a four-to-eight-week timeline.
Instead? He’s back.

“A lot faster than expected,” Chabot told reporters before his Thursday night return. “I think a lot of work with our medical staff, [they] spent a lot of time with me, I’m lucky.
“It’s the best case scenario… Basically broke my arm, simple as that, and then we went under surgery. Everything went well. Obviously, the healing process went a lot quicker than we all expected… A couple plates, screws, and here we are.”
With Ottawa clinging to an Eastern Conference playoff spot by just two points with four games left on the schedule, the Sens need all the reinforcements they can get to punch their ticket to the postseason.
