2024 Canadian Grand Prix was most-watched F1 race ever in Canada
Despite some pretty horrendous weather, the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal was a success in multiple departments.
The wet track at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve provided F1 fans with a thrilling race full of unique twists, turns, and even a few wipeouts. Meanwhile, the Grand Prix’s high attendance rate was matched with an insanely high viewership rate.
According to a Tuesday X post from TSN, last Sunday’s race was the country’s most-watched F1 event ever. The event drew an average audience of 1.4 million television and livestream viewers in Canada, an increase of 5% compared to previous years.

F1 fans south of the border were also tuned in. According to ESPN, Canada’s 2024 Grand Prix earned its largest live US television audience ever, with an average of 1.8 million viewers watching the race-only segment from 2 to 4 pm ET.
American viewership peaked at 1.97 million between 3 and 3:15 pm, marking a 2% increase from the previous year’s record of 1.76 million viewers.
While the latest attendance numbers have not yet been released, Montreal’s annual racing weekend has certainly been on an upward trajectory in recent years.
For example, the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix posted the best attendance in its history, as a whopping 345,000 spectators from around the world made their way to Notre Dame Island last June.
Meanwhile, this time around, plenty of celebrities, including Scott Disick, Snoop Dogg, and Halsey, were seen enjoying the indulgent weekend’s many festivities.
As for the action on the track, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen managed to take home the top prize, edging out Lando Norris of McLaren (P2) and George Russell of Mercedes (P3) to win his third consecutive Canadian Grand Prix.
The Dutch driver is now tied with Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher for most consecutive victories in Montreal.
