Canada's top 100 employers for 2018 released

Canada’s Top 100 Employers has just released its 18th annual list.

If you’re not already working at one of these companies, you’re probably going to want to start looking into it. Because the “project is a national competition to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employee.”

And this year is all about companies with ‘thoughtful innovation’ to drive their businesses forward and to bring employees along.

“The best employers recognize that they need to innovate thoughtfully to keep moving forward,” says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “But the challenge is to evolve with changes in technology and employee expectations while maintaining the goal of creating better workplaces that align the needs of their business with those of their employees.”

According to their press release, Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the competition, went through the recruitment histories of more than 90,000 Canadian employers and from those results encouraged some 7,500 employers to “submit detailed applications, including a comprehensive review of their operations and HR practices that compares them to others in their industry and region.”

Employers were evaluated based on eight common pillars and then compared to similar organizations in their fields to figure out which company is doing the best. The eight pillars include:

  1. Physical Workplace
  2. Work Atmosphere & Social
  3. Health, Financial & Family Benefits
  4. Vacation & Time Off
  5. Employee Communications
  6. Performance Management
  7. Training & Skills Development
  8. Community Involvement

“We are witnessing a remarkable transformation in the nature of work,” says Kristina Leung, Senior Editor at Mediacorp. “Organizations must be open to change so they are able to adapt and make innovation a priority, whether it’s using new HR technology or stimulating employee creativity to find new and better ways of doing things.”

So who made this year’s golden list?
