If you haven’t heard, Canada is getting ready to celebrate a pretty big birthday.

Our home and native land is turning 150 and there are plenty of festivities to attend.

From Vancouver to White Rock and everywhere in between, here are 23 free Canada Day events you should check out!

Vancouver

Canada Day at Canada Place

  • What: Canada Day at Canada Place has been Western Canada’s premier Canada Day event for 30 years, bringing communities together to share our special bond of living in one of the greatest countries in the world and celebrating our freedom, values and diversity.
  • When: Saturday, July 1
  • Time: Events at various times. Check website for details.
  • Where: Canada Place – 999 Canada Pl, Vancouver

Canada Day Fireworks

  • What: Fireworks will be returning to Burrard Inlet this Canada Day to celebrate the country’s 150th birthday. As per tradition, there will be a two-barge fireworks show in the inlet, with one barge located in Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver and a second barge off the shores of Dundarave in West Vancouver.
  • When: Saturday, July 1

Canada Day on Granville Island

  • What: A full day of events at Granville Island! From a bike parade to celebrations at False Creek Community Centre, these festivities won’t disappoint.

Canada Day Parade 

  • What: A full day of events at Granville Island! From a bike parade to celebrations at False Creek Community Centre, these festivities won’t disappoint.

North Vancouver

Canada Day at Waterfront Park

  • What: Come out and enjoy a day full of activities, family fun, food trucks, and fireworks.
  • When: Saturday, July 1
  • Time: Noon to 4 pm. Evening events: 6:30 to 10:30 pm.
  • Where: Waterfront Park  – Block, 200 Esplanade W. North Vancouver

North Vancouver Canada Day Parade

  • What: Hosted by the Celebrate North Shore society, the annual parade features a huge variety of colourful floats from all around the community, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion and Cadet Branches.
  • When:  Saturday, July 1 at 10 am
  • Time: 10 am
  • Where: Starts at 13th Street and Grand Boulevard, goes west on 13th Street to Lonsdale, north on Lonsdale, west on 17th Avenue, and ends at Jones and Mahon Park.

West Vancouver

Canada Day at Horseshoe Bay

  • What: Join Karen Fowlie and Friends for a special Canada 150 celebrations with a free concert recognizing Canadian Women in Song.
  • When: Saturday, July 1
  • Time: 7 to 10 pm
  • Where: Horseshoe Bay Park  – 750 17th Street, West Vancouver

Burnaby

Canada Day at Edmonds Plaza and Park 

  • What: Celebrate in festive style, outdoors at the Edmonds Plaza and Park. It’s a fun day of free family activities, face painting, music, arts and crafts, the ever popular bingo, cake, amazing multi-cultural entertainment.

Canada Day Celebrations at Swangard Stadium

  • What: Celebrate the spirit of Canada Day with a free concert and fireworks display. The event marks Canada’s 150th birthday and highlights include: top-notch entertainment; activities and exhibitors for the whole family, and spectacular fireworks for the grand finale.
  • When: Saturday, July 1
  • Time: 5 to 10 pm

    Burnaby

Canada Day Celebrations at the Burnaby Village Museum

  • What: It’s a Party! Offering visitors the backdrop of its 1920s village streets, multi-cultural family entertainment includes musicians, displays and demonstrations with free admission into the museum.

Canada Day at Queen’s Park 

  • What: Head out for a day fun and celebrations for the entire family in beautiful Queen’s Park. This year, the City of New Westminster is planning an extra special event which will spill out into Queens Park to celebrate this important milestone in our history.

Fireworks at Westminster Quay

  • What: The New Westminster Hyack Festival Association presents an evening of stunning fireworks at the New Westminster Quay and over the Fraser River. Bring your camera, your binoculars and of course, your family and friends!

Richmond

Canada Day in Steveston 

  • What: The City of Richmond is hosting the ultimate birthday party in celebration of Canada’s 150th year of Confederation. The brand new Richmond Canada Day in Steveston presented by YVR will feature a free, full-day street party throughout Steveston Village alongside the much beloved Steveston Salmon Festival. A headline performance by Juno Award-winners Wintersleep and fireworks over the Fraser River will cap off the celebrations.

North Delta

Canada Day at Chalmers Park

You can have it all at Canada’s massive 150th birthday celebration in Surrey this July – hosted by the City of Surrey.Falling on Saturday, July 1 this year, Canada Day will be bigger and better than ever before at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre. In fact, it will be the largest Canada Day Celebration in Western Canada – with more than 100,000 people expected to attend.
