What’s closed (and open) on Canada Day in Vancouver

Canada Day is almost here, and while the holiday brings exciting events and celebrations across Metro Vancouver, it also comes with a number of closures and service adjustments.

Whether you’re planning a picnic, a last-minute shopping trip, or just trying to avoid transit surprises, here’s what to expect on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Costco

All Costco locations in B.C. will be closed on Canada Day. So if you’re planning a backyard BBQ, stock up early.

BC Liquor Stores

Most BC Liquor stores will operate with reduced hours, and some will be closed altogether.
Here are a few examples (always double-check location hours on BC Liquor’s website):

  • Harbour Centre: Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • 39th & Cambie: Open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Broadway & Maple: Closed
  • Ambleside, UBC Wesbrook Village, 28th & Main: Typically open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Closed on Tuesday, July 1, for Canada Day. Reopens on Wednesday, July 2 at 8:30 a.m.

Banks

All VPL branches will be closed on July 1, except the Carnegie Branch at 401 Main St., which remains open every day of the year.

Community centres

Most community centres in Vancouver will be closed on Canada Day, with a few exceptions:

Open on July 1:

  • False Creek: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Hastings: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Kerrisdale: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Killarney: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Mount Pleasant: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Roundhouse: 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • Sunset: Closed from noon to 4 p.m. for Canada Day event

Transit and travel on Canada Day

TransLink holiday service:

Buses: Sunday/holiday schedule

Expo & Millennium SkyTrain Lines:

  • Start with Sunday/holiday times
  • End with weekday late-night schedule
  • Last train leaves Waterfront Station at 1:16 a.m.

Canada Line: Regular weekday hours

SeaBus:

  • 10-minute service from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • 15-minute service until 11:15 p.m.

Closed:

  • West Coast Express (no service)
  • TransLink Customer Service Centre (Waterfront)
  • Access Transit Customer Care
  • Lost Property Office

Only a one-zone fare is required to travel anywhere on July 1. Service returns to regular weekday schedules for all modes on Wednesday, July 2. Regular fares will be in effect.

BC Ferries

Expect high traffic and possible schedule changes, especially for the Tsawwassen–Swartz Bay route. Check BC Ferries’ service notices for live updates.

Road closures near Canada Place

Expect major road closures and heavy traffic near Canada Place starting Monday, June 30, through Saturday, July 5, due to Canada Together events and increased activity at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Canada Place Way will be closed to general traffic from June 30 to July 5
  • Access via Howe Street will be limited to taxis, buses, hotel guests, and cruise terminal access only
    • Ride-hailing vehicles may still access Howe Street for Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront Hotel guests
    • Cruise drop-offs are permitted via Main Street and Waterfront Road (P2 level).
    • Cruise pick-ups must occur at 1000 West Cordova Street
  • The 800- and 900-blocks of West Cordova Street will be fully closed on July 1 for Canada Day programming

Traffic pattern changes:

  • Howe Street (between Cordova and Canada Place Way) will temporarily operate as a two-way road starting in late June
  • Canada Place (between Howe and Burrard) will remain one-way westbound under the current pilot project
