Festivities prompt week-long closure of busy Vancouver roadway

Next week could be a hectic time in downtown Vancouver, and in preparation, the City has announced a closure for a busy downtown roadway.
Canada Place will be closed to traffic from Monday, June 30, to Saturday, July 5.
There is a lot happening in Vancouver next week, punctuated by the international Alcoholics Anonymous convention from July 3 to July 6. There’s also the Canada Together event on Canada Day, which is expected to bring a significant amount of foot traffic to the area.
The City of Vancouver is offering some guidance to both visitors and locals who might need to commute in or out of the area.
According to the City, Howe Street access will be limited to taxis, buses, and hotel guests heading to the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Pan Pacific Hotel, and Canada Place cruise terminal only.
“Ride-hailing vehicles picking up or dropping off guests at the Pan Pacific and Fairmont Waterfront hotels will be permitted to access Howe Street,” the City said.
“Ride-hailing vehicles can drop off cruise passengers on the lower P2 level of the terminal, accessible via Main Street and Waterfront Road. Cruise-related ride-hailing vehicles need to pick up on 1000 W. Cordova,” it added.
“Expect heavy congestion in the area and plan ahead.”
In addition to the restricted access in the area, the 800 and 900 blocks of Cordova Street will be closed on July 1 for Canada Together.
“To support these changes, Howe Street between Cordova Street and Canada Place will operate as a two-way road from late June onwards. The portion of Canada Place between Howe and Burrard streets will continue to operate one-way westbound as part of our Canada Place one-way pilot,” the City says.
Information Bulletin: Canada Place closed to general traffic June 30 to July 5. Expect heavy congestion in the area.
