Canada close to record-high in latest FIFA men's world rankings

Canada is once again knocking on the door of its highest-ever spot in the FIFA men’s world rankings.
The Canadian men’s national team climbed three places to No. 27 in the latest rankings released Wednesday, putting them just one spot behind the program’s all-time high of No. 26.
The jump comes after Canada picked up a pair of impressive results against South American opposition during its latest international window.
Canada opened the window with a 1-0 victory over Chile in Toronto before following it up with a 2-0 win over Peru in Montreal. The CanMNT then closed out the window with a narrow 1-0 loss to the United States on Tuesday night in Minnesota.
Despite the defeat, Canada still managed to move from 30th to 27th in the latest FIFA rankings. They’ve been able to do so without Alphonso Davies, who missed all three matches as he was on his honeymoon with his wife, Sheyenne Jen.
The ranking is another positive development for a Canadian side coming off a historic 2026 World Cup, where Jesse Marsch’s squad reached the Round of 16 on home soil.
Canada’s highest-ever FIFA ranking came in September 2025, when it climbed to No. 26. It briefly held that position before falling back down the rankings later that year.
Now, the national team has another opportunity to match that mark when the FIFA rankings are updated again in November.
Canada will return to action next month for its Nations League quarterfinal matchup with Guatemala, giving the team another chance to continue its climb up the international rankings.
The United States, meanwhile, remained at No. 16 despite moving to 4-0-0 during its latest international window, while Mexico held onto its spot at No. 10.
