Canada is known for many great things, including its diversity.
Every year Canada’s Best Diversity Employers competition recognizes the country’s leaders in creating inclusive workplaces.
The competition recognizes inclusivity for employees from five diverse groups: women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and LGBTQ2s+ peoples, according to a release.
“We see more employers setting measurable diversity and inclusion goals, monitoring progress, and driving accountability,” says Kristina Leung, Senior Editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “These goals are increasingly integrated into annual performance reviews, as well as the key performance indicators that link individual compensation to achievement of these goals.”
Stephanie Leung, the Assistant Editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, says the past year has been “a time of reckoning” for many organizations, citing it’s been a moment to pause and listen. “Creating safe spaces for employees to engage in constructive dialogue has helped organizations understand how their employees want them to respond to events like Black Lives Matter – and how progressive employers can amplify underrepresented voices,” she says.

To determine this year’s winners, editors reviewed the diversity and inclusiveness initiatives of employers that took part in this year’s Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office or principal place of business in Canada. Employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector. Each applicant must have an interesting initiative for at least one of the five diverse groups covered by this competition.
